Re-growing or transplantation of hair is a unique operative method that gives permanent results in resolving the problem of receding hair or hair loss.
Hair loss with adult males mostly results from the bond created between one of the androgenic hormones and the receptor that is located in the hair root, which presents a group of cells whose division enables the growth of hair. Due to the hormone with the receptor spot bond the deterioration of potent cells occurs and slowly the changes are seen on the hair itself regarding its quality, and thickness. In time, it becomes thinner, silky, and very soft and subsequently it cannot grow at the same pace as the hair around it. Finally the hair comes off permanently, the root is destroyed and it cannot grow again. Which hair will come off primarily depends on inherited pattern of hair that bears the corresponding receptors in its root that will come off permanently one day, upon hormone effect. This kind of loss is called androgenic alopecia.
Similar problems may be present in females as well. In fact, the level of androgenic hormones is insufficient in a female body to cause such a problem in physiological circumstances in women. However, there is a number of states when a new hormonal balance is established in a female body, such as the first menstruation, pregnancy, immediate post-delivery period, nursing, menopause, when a hormonal misbalance may occur, sudden increase of androgenic hormones that cause problems of permanent hair loss.
Hair transplantation may resolve serious alopecia of different etiology, as well as hair loss in the area of beard, moustache, eyebrows and eyelashes.
The transplantation itself is based on the fact that the hair at the back of the head does not have specific receptors in its root that hormones may create bonds with, so the hair is not liable to coming off and it is used to make some areas, where there is less or no hair at all, denser. Practically the operation procedure means that hair in a form of strips is taken from the donor (the area at the back of the head) in different sizes and transplanted to the recipient areas, which lack hair. Transplants are usually divided in three categories: standard, round 4mm in diameter that include 10-15 hairs with roots, mini, square 2mm wide that include 4.6 hairs with root, micro that include 1-2 hairs with its root. The number of hairs in a transplant primarily depends on the density and quality of the hair in the donor area at the back of the head. In that way healthy root is transplanted that enables normal further growth of the hair, in its new spot. There is no possibility that transplants are rejected since the process is auto transplantation. Newly grown hair is permanent and its color and quality completely corresponds with the rest of the hair on the surface of the head.
The operation is performed in local anesthesia, so no special preoperative preparation is necessary, and post operation period is relatively easy. The patient can continue their regular activities very soon. In this way the transplanted hair does not come off again, it continues to grow normally, it may be cut, dyed and treated as the rest of the hair and its color and quality completely fits the rest of the hair.
