Mastopexy – breast lifting
Development of the breasts completes at the age of eighteen and after that, during different periods of a woman’s life, changes take place in the breast tissue itself. In time, by the effect of gravity and due to the weight of breast itself, changes in size, shape and position of breasts take place related to the thorax i.e. breast lowers.
There are many different surgical procedures that may be pplied to perform suspension, breast tissue lifting. Which procedure patients choose, upon consultations with a surgeon, primarily depends on the quality and quantity of the breast tissue itself as well as on the covering skin. To accomplish certain breast size, sometimes it is enough to change the height of mammal gland, and that can be gained by attaching it to fascia of pectoral, breast muscle. In certain cases, a breast is simply dry, i.e., beside ptosis, there is atrophy of fatty tissue of a breast, so the problem may be solved by placing an implant either below gland tissue or below pectoral muscle, which gives a new shape, size and position of a breast. In the most difficult cases, with ptosis i.e. breast lowering and atrophy of the whole of breast tissue accompanying large excess of skin, there is a possibility to reduce skin volume, change the height of gland tissue and make new position of a breast. Sometimes it is necessary, in order to gain better esthetic result, to combine more such methods.
At the first examination your wishes and aims will be taken into consideration; everything will be written down. Then, detailed examinations will be performed and the plan of the operation that fully corresponds to your needs will be created. Preoperative photos are used so that the procedure and the final result will be fully followed and explained to the patient step-by-step. During the examination the patient is informed about possible risks and limitation. Our aim is to give all the information to the patient so that she would have a clear picture of what to expect. Volume and complexity of the procedure depend on individual factors such as age, size and volume of the breasts, as well as possible necessity to use implants.
The operation is performed in general anesthesia and the patient needs to prepare before the operation and to spend one or two days after the operation in hospital. Depending on the operation procedure, patients usually continue with easy daily activities after the period of seven days.
Breast lifting is very successful in patents with ptotic beasts. Scars fade after several months. It is highly important to know that results do not last for the rest of one’s life. Aging process as well as gravity, pregnancy, variation in weight influence the appearance of breasts and repeated intervention may be needed.
