Breast Reduction

Women with big, lowered breasts may have various medical problems caused by the weight of the breasts: pain in the spinal area of the neck, irritation of stretched skin, spinal deformity, as well as problems with breathing. Strips of bras that have cut into shoulders for many years, cause deformities. Unusually big and heavy breasts may cause lack of self-confidence and a complex.

redukcija dojkiBreast reduction, known as reduction mammoplasty, includes removal of one part of fatty tissue, mammal gland and extra skin from breasts, making them smaller, more attractive in shape, lighter and tight. It is possible do reduce the size of a nipple and its areola. Sometimes the intervention includes the application of implants in order to accomplish better results and symmetry. At our clinic, implants of the latest generation are used with textured polyurethane surface and highly cohesive gelatin filling avoiding complications that used to occur as a consequence of body reaction to an alien item in it. Such interventions are aimed at creating smaller, better shaped and positioned breasts in proportion with the patient’s body.

Breast reduction may significantly increase the patient’s self-confidence. Also, it has orthopedic effect in reliving spinal pain caused by big breasts. Natural aging process, as well as gravitational powers, pregnancy and variation in weight affect the appearance of breasts and may cause additional operation procedures.

The intervention is performed in general anesthesia and, depending on the complexity of the operation, lasts from 2,30 to 5 hours. Upon the intervention breasts are wrapped in special elastic bandage or covered by surgical bra with gauze below it. Small drains remain usually one to two days. During first several days the patient feels pain, especially when moving and coughing as well as unpleasant feeling in the area of thorax for the following week or two.

Bandages are removed after a few days and then a special bra is worn for the whole day during several weeks. You may walk as soon as two days after the operation, and pain can be relieved by analgesics. During the following three to four weeks, the patient should avoid pulling, pushing, and lifting any weight. Accompanying detailed post operation instructions, most women continue normal life and easier daily activities two weeks after the operation.
