Breast augmentation – augmentation mammoplasty
Patients mostly choose such surgical intervention because they are not satisfied with the size, shape or position of the breasts. These interventions are often performed due to the existing, esthetically unacceptable breast asymmetry, and loss of volume and shape during pregnancy and nursing or after rigorous diets when the quantity of breast fatty tissue decreases.
The breast tissue itself that is located on fascia of pectoral breast muscle includes mammal gland and fibrous septum that keep breast tissue on a pectoral fascia at the appropriate height. The breast development completes at the age of eighteen, and after that such interventions may be performed.
At the first examination your wishes and aims will be taken into consideration; everything will be written down. Then, detailed examinations will be performed and the plan of the operation that fully corresponds to your needs will be created. Preoperative photos are used so that the procedure and the final result will be fully followed and explained to the patient step-by-step. During the examination the patient is informed about possible risks and limitation.
Our aim is to give all the information to the patient so that she would have a clear picture of what to expect. It is highly important to define your demands in terms of final size of the breasts and the spot where the incision should be performed.
Breast augmentation is performed with implants of latest generation, of different size and shape whose upper surface consists of textured polyurethane substance that enables the best possible contact between the implant and the surrounding tissue; the filling consists of highly cohesive gel that enables volume, shape and firmness of breasts. There are three approaches in placing the implant in its place:
- inframammary, the scar remains below the inframammary fold, rim
- periareolar, in which the scar remains in the area around the nipple and is hidden in its pigmented area or around the nipple itself.
- axillary, where the scar remains in the area of the armpit
It is important to know that prosthesis may be placed in three layers: below the gland tissue itself, and on pectoral fascia and below fascia or below the pectoral muscle. A patient agrees with the surgeon about the size and shape of prosthesis, operation approach as well as the position of the prosthesis. Regardless of the operation approach and the position of prosthesis, the nursing function remains intact.
The operation is performed in general anesthesia and the patient needs to prepare before the operation and to spend one day in hospital after the operation. Post operation recovery differs from patient to patient, but most of them continue with some light activities seven days upon the operation. Intensive physical exercises should be avoided during the period of six months.
It is important to know that the natural aging process, gravity, changes in weight may influence the appearance of breasts and may demand additional operation procedures.
